October 2019 Update

What do you do when it feels like your health and your technology have conspired against your art?
For us at Gravity Tree this has been the question in mind for the better part of this year and some of the year previous.
The proverbial light seems to be appearing at the end of the tunnel, and if one believed in a jinx one might not ever communicate to interested parties about new music being pulled from dead computers and out into a safer place where imagination and determination can finish the work.

Forward progress is being made in the music, between the drive pulls and restores and all the data tasks, so perhaps at a snail's pace. Or is it a tortoise? Slow and steady, which sounds more positive and so much more encouraging.

Therefore the music, unlike a certain Pro Tools HD computer, is not dead. But there is more work than just writing out the notes and bars, and another update will hopefully indicate goals are being achieved, and a release date for new music can be set. Until then...thanks for checking in, and as always, for listening.

Amazon Music Unlimited

First, we are finally back, composing (and blogging) after a lengthy hiatus. We will be updating all our sites in the coming weeks (which all look like they were last coded in the '90's) and will be sending out emails to those on our list to better detail our status, as well as maintaining a more current blog here. Meanwhile...

Our albums Ultimate Backward and Life or Dessert? as well as our single release Building, are now available on Amazon's streaming service, Amazon Music Unlimited.

New music is also underway and a timetable will be forthcoming.
Thank you for continuing to listen!

Threes Too (Remastered)

Threes Too

A newly remastered version of the instrumental Threes Too is now available at CDBaby and ReverbNation.

The song was originally the final track on the album Life or Dessert?. The CD has gone out-of-print, and while downloads are always available, the general sound of the instrumental piece - while the best that could be done at the time - wasn't all that it could have been.

The remastered version takes a solid step forward toward improving the overall sound and balance of the track. You can hear it in the player on this page, and download it from our ReverbNation page.

If you prefer a FLAC file, head over to our CD Baby page.

More Gravity Tree music is on the way...

The 12 minute White Elephant in the Studio

I knew we were in trouble when we were making a list of the songs in development and I bring up the longest piece we were (supposed to be) working on, and my guitarist's response was "oh I forgot about that one".

At that point, I got the feeling that the Gravity Tree '3rd album project' (for lack of a decent name) was starting to resemble Brian Wilson's "Smile", which as I recall, took him some 30-odd years to complete. The path to completing the album started to resemble a gauntlet. So I thought "perhaps I should quit".

Just one problem: I am not a quitter. So I ask myself (or was that David Byrne), "self, how did I get here?"...and I'll skip all of the pondering that followed...

I still believe this music has some merit and I need to get it out. I think "need" is the correct term here. So although our schedules are pretty much jam-packed with other gigs and projects and solo albums and commercial soundtrack music and all manner of life events, I'm trying to see this thing to its end, and then decide what needs to happen. Once music is completed and released, it becomes something else. It is no longer the "project".

That 12 minute piece may not be making it onto this release. Said guitarist has since stated he thinks it is further away than that to an ending. But we have a couple of finished things, a lot of almost-finished pieces, and some hardly started work that might go faster at this point.

We're not a government, so I guess I should call this the State-of-the-Project or something. We're moving past the 12-minute White Elephant in the Studio. We've acknowledged the time spent on it might not have been practical, and time will tell if and when it is released if any of the investment pays dividends or not, creatively speaking. But there are other (perhaps better) pieces that we think you might enjoy. And we're all over that.

I will reserve release dates for another blog. For now, I reiterate that new music is coming. If you need an indicator (and who would blame you), when it begins to appear, this page will change. Haters, get ready to hate. You are nothing compared to a musical elephant.

The End of the Beginning

The last day of the first month of a new year finds Linc and myself trying to work on some of his (solo) project, and a couple of the next Gravity Tree pieces.

It was decided that an update here was needed as we have not communicated since the holidays were in full-swing. We are still here. New music is in development.

And there will be a more informative announcement in the next few weeks.

Until then, some of our noise is streaming (for free) on our Power of Prog page...

Free fan-only CWTD Halloween Download

Here we are in late October, already!

Some of you have noticed Gravity Tree on the various social networks as we promote our seasonally appropriate song, Conversing with the Dead (aka CWTD). We didn't write it that way; it just seems to fall into the Halloween camp.

The new material is still being hatched as it were. Meanwhile, we thought we'd share CWTD with our friends and fans who might not have grabbed it here or have yet to own the album on which it originally appeared, ULTIMATE BACKWARD.

So if you're already on our email list (or sign up quick!), you'll be able to get a free download of CWTD. Just head over to our page at ReverbNation to download Conversing with the Dead or use this link:

http://bit.ly/1rAUSga

It's a small way of doing something for Halloween for our friends and fans to say "thanks".

(Full disclaimer: The download is the original version of CWTD. If you want the 2011 remastered hi-resolution version, it's on BandCamp for just a buck; we couldn't work out the freebie there and can't post the hi-rez stuff with ReverbNation yet.)

This freebie is only offered through Halloween (October 31st) at which time it turns into a pumpkin?...so don't delay.

To recap:

Conversing with the Dead. FREE MP3. Now through Friday midnight PDT.
