A Very Progressive Christmas

Melodic Revolution Records has announced the release of "A Very Progressive Christmas", a new compilation disc featuring the music of several popular progressive music groups - including Gravity Tree. Download singles will be available Friday, November 27 (one day after Thanksgiving); and the album itself will be released Tuesday, December 1.

The album includes the Gravity Tree song "Wait", newly remastered just for this special holiday release.

More information can be found by clicking on the banner (above) or by viewing the press release HERE.

We hope you enjoy the music. Happy Holidays from Gravity Tree!

Our prog rock is now on iLike

Progressive rock duo Gravity Tree (that's us!) is now on iLike. "Life or Dessert?", our first CD, is there now, and songs from the CD "Ultimate Backward" should show up soon. You can also 'Like' our songs on Facebook, and it appears Purevolume has adopted a similar voting method, if not the same.

So make sure you stop by and 'like' us. Here's the link to our music on iLike:

Also: we will soon be posting news about a holiday-themed compilation disc, so look for that on our next blog in the next few days (a week or so?)...

Until then, don't forget to 'Like' us on iLike, Facebook, or Purevolume.

Amazon has lower price on LOD

Our 1st progressive rock CD, "Life or Dessert?" has been at Amazon.com for some time, but they've just dropped the price to $7.99 US. That's a physical CD, and we were sort of surprised that they actually have it in stock (since we pretty much don't).

Here's the link:

http://bit.ly/4qCzp

BTW they also have downloads of all the songs from LOD and its avant-prog follow-up, "Ultimate Backward". Right now, however the "Life or Dessert?" CD is actually cheaper than the download!

Still, CDs are great for gifts, as the holidays are rolling up (somehow, already!).

Happy shopping.

15 cent per download sale

There is a major sale on "ULTIMATE BACKWARD", the latest avant-prog album from prog-rock duo Gravity Tree.

Amie Street Music is selling "ULTIMATE BACKWARD" for $2 or less as a download, and individual MP3 downloads for as low as 15 cents.

You read that right. Here's the link:

http://bit.ly/1KI6Jn

They have an interesting pricing structure over there: the sooner you buy, the cheaper the download or album. So last time we checked, you could get our songs for 15 cents a piece, and the whole album for a dollar fifty!

Obviously, prices won't stay that low forever. So if you don't have our album "ULTIMATE BACKWARD", or are missing a few downloads, now is the time to grab some new progressive music, for pretty close to free.

Rhapsody, Verizon + New Music Soon

Before this time next week, you'll be able to get the first pre-release song from the new album, coming soon. The song is called BUILDING, and we'll have links posted as soon as it's widely available. In the meantime we're happy to mention that U.S. Verizon mobile customers can get music from our albums ULTIMATE BACKWARD and LIFE OR DESSERT? for their mobile devices. Verizon is making them available for their V Cast music with Rhapsody program, so be sure and look for our music there. And music from both albums is available from the main Rhapsody website, for streaming, and for your MP3 player.

Our currently popular song

Not that we write pop, but the song "Wait" has been getting some attention in the last few months. Maybe you can listen to it and tell us why - we're clueless as to the attraction to an instrumental (with a synth lead no less) in 6/4 is doing well.

Maybe because it's not 7 minutes long?

Check it out:

Wait

BTW, we've got new music coming out soon, so be on the lookout for that as well.

Cheers.

CDBaby pages back in order...?

One of the stores we sell our music through, CDBaby, has been undergoing a facelift. As a result of the changes, we had some bad links, blank or incorrect information, and general mayhem on our album pages there.

Although out of our control, we did want to apologize to anyone trying to play or buy our music in the last 3 or 4 weeks at CDBaby. We know it's no fun to follow a link, to find out it goes nowhere, somewhere else, or just gets you to a bad page. Sorry for any frustration that may have caused.

BTW our album "Life or Dessert?" is still on sale at CDBaby, for just $5; physical CD or MP3 album - your choice. The sale ends soon, however.

Thanks for your patience, and we look forward to bringing you more new music in the near future...

5 Dollar CD Sale Still Going

Where can you find progressive rock CDs for 5 dollars?

For a limited time, prog-rock duo Gravity Tree is selling the CD "Life or Dessert?" for just five dollars, CD or MP3 download. That's a good deal in any economy.

Just head over to the Gravity Tree page at CDBaby. This is significantly cheaper than anyone selling this CD we know of - even used copies on eBay end up being more when you tack on shipping.

This sale will end soon, however, so don't wait. And check back soon for news about a new song from Gravity Tree.

One Million Plays

Gravity Tree recently passed the one million mark on song plays at NumberOneMusic. That's not too bad for a progressive rock band, we think.

Thanks to all our fans and listeners for making that happen. It's nice to know you can stand to listen to our music that much for that long!

Ultimate Backward review from Expose Magazine

Finally getting to post the Exposé magazine review of our CD, Ultimate Backward. It's also found on the reviews page of our official site, and of course on our MySpace blog. Here's the review...

Gravity Tree is one of the more interesting progressive bands around, a duo who covers all the instruments of a four piece band, plus vocals; and they do this live too. Guitarist Linc plays a combo-guitar that has both bass and guitar strings, and separate pickups for each, allowing him to play both parts simultaneously. Drummer Alan Nu handles a keyboard with his right hand and drums with the others, as well as using various drum controlled triggers. The result is an amazing full band sound from just two players. Both provide the vocals. Some readers may remember "Aim to Please," their contribution to the Bay Prog Sampler disc that was included with issue #24; in fact that song has gone through further refinement in the years since and appears here on this, their second album, along with nine other original compositions. Their material bears a stamp of currency, yet also features the conceptual ideals of classic progressive rock. Their influences likely include Zappa, Happy The Man, Van der Graaf, and Gentle Giant, which they assimilate well as they explore new musical territory; most of the songs are long and labyrinthine, and rarely settle down into a pattern for very long. In that respect, I am reminded of another current band, The Underground Railroad. Familiarity with Ultimate Backward will require a few repeated plays, but over the haul the listener will be rewarded. This is a solid second effort.

BTW if you find a review of one of our albums, don't hesitate to contact us with the link. Thanks for listening.

Napster and Archiving

Ultimate Backward, still the latest album from Gravity Tree (although that will change this year), can be heard for free at Napster. If that link doesn't work, you can enter this URL into your browser to get you there:

Alan has been busy archiving old projects in the main studio to make more room for the ongoing work on the third CD, due out this year. Expect an update on the album right here, soon.
